How accessible Uppcoder is today against WCAG 2.1 level AA, what we have tested, the known limitations, and how to tell us about a barrier.

Our commitment

We want everyone to be able to use Uppcoder, whatever their abilities and however they use a computer. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA across Uppcoder's own web interface.

How accessible Uppcoder is today

Uppcoder is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts do not yet fully meet the standard, or have not yet been verified everywhere.

What we have tested and fixed (October 2026):

  • Text and important colours meet the contrast requirements in both the light and the dark theme.
  • Everything can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline, and a "Skip to main content" link on every page.
  • Pages reflow at narrow widths and at 200% zoom without sideways scrolling.
  • Every page has a title that names it, and every product film has captions.

Known limitations:

  • We have not yet tested Uppcoder with screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver). That testing is being scheduled; we will update this statement with its results.
  • With increased letter and word spacing, labels in the collapsible side menu can be cut off.
  • The product films have narration describing what happens on screen, but no separate audio-description track or full transcript.
  • The code editor and tools inside a student's development environment are third-party software chosen for each course (for example Visual Studio Code or JupyterLab). Their accessibility is described by their makers.
  • Course material written by teachers is the responsibility of its author.

How we tested

Automated testing with axe-core on 26 page views as a visitor, a student, a teacher and a school administrator, in both themes; keyboard-only testing of the main screens; reflow, zoom and text-spacing tests. Last tested 15 October 2026.
